COST ANALYSIS
As each green roof is unique, our cost analysis is based on several assumptions about the buildings (size, weight bearings, etc.), plants that can be used, and overall design. We also priced all materials individually. If a company was used to consult and install the green roof, prices would most likely change. Our costs are also based on our unique concept designs.

COST ANALYSIS: EXPLANATION
The different cost analysis charts are our own calculations of what we think materials would cost. These costs do not include consultations or implementation. Consultation and implementation need to be considered because each green roof is designed specifically for the building that it will be implemented on. Bringing in a consultant will allow us to finalize costs and make sure that the materials that we are using are acceptable for the implementation of green roofs.
In our cost analysis for current buildings, we are assuming that the steel support that would be needed to implement a green roof is already included. For future buildings, steel support would be added or calculated into the construction of the building and roof to structurally support the green roof. We will be using the same materials for current and future buildings, with the addition of park benches, tables, railing, and lighting for future buildings. Railing will be installed during the construction of the building. Current buildings will not require those materials as they will not be accessible to the public. Certain materials are costly, but the university will be able to cover costs through grants, student fees, donations, and scholarships. If these funds do not help cover costs, the idea of implementing a coffee shop as an addition to the hangout spot would be able to fund the space.
When implementing the grass, it is important to implement grass that will succeed in Houston weather, with that being said costs of grass will fluctuate depending on the climate and city the green roof will be implemented in. The costs of the sprinkler system is unknown, but a system will be implemented by Conservation Technology (http://www.conservationtechnology.com/greenroof_channels.html) to help maintain the grass.
