PRECEDENT RESEARCH

Universities around the country continue to implement green roof systems on their campuses. I used the projects from these universities as references for the layout of the roof design. The designs of the roofs are not only helping energy efficiencies, but becoming new interactive spaces for students. It allows students to interact with these spaces and use them to study, meet, or socialize.

TRINITY UNIVERSITY

EYP Design

This rooftop space at Trinity University uses natural grasses and simple concrete paths to create a low maintenance space.

OHIO STATE

CTL Engineering and NBBJ Architects

This university wanted to incorporate the idea of mediation through mind walks. This explains the design intent behind this roof structure. The gravel paths and wood deck do not take away from the natural elements of the roof.

PENN STATE UNIVERSITY

GUND Partnership

Penn state uses materials that compliment the building. The use of simple barriers and signage allow visitors to interact and learn more about the space.

PROPOSED ROOFTOP LOUNGE

Our group wanted to not only incorporate green roof's on campus, but create interactive spaces for students and faculty. These spaces could be used for both recreational and educational needs.

NEW RESIDENTIAL HALL

The Architectural Firm EYP is designing the new residential building on campus. Since this building is new construction it was the perfect prototype for our proposed design. The diagrams are interpretations of the residential hall.

DIAGRAM 1: OVERVIEW

This is a overheard view of the new residential hall. The placement of the green roof would be over the building that houses the main lobby. There would be a 3rd story access to enter onto the green roof.

DIAGRAM 2: SITE

This zoomed in view of the green roof shows the individual private areas of the space. The green spaces divide each picnic area to immerse the visitors into the greenery. This space will be used for not only recreational use but educational as well.
